Darktable vs lightroom9/25/2023 ![]() ![]() I've not worked with Darktable so, don't know how you'd mask/manage sharpening in that app. Rawtherapee handles the raw processing and Digikam everything else. Edit: should mention, I use Rawtherapee in conjunction with Digikam. Rawtherapee is vastly more user friendly and Ive found myself able to get good results out of it. Both are based upon Linux based interfacing frameworks, so the user interfaces leave something to be desired. I tried Darktable and found it incredibly difficult to use. Darktable is photo editing software, with some digital asset management capabilities. Plus, you'll mitigate other sharpening artifacts. DigiKam is digital asset management software, with some limited photo editing capabilities. Also, noise in the sky and water won't be as obvious. It has been designed for non-destructive and post-production needs of touching up photos. RawTherapee is a multi-platform photo-editing program that Gábor Horváth of Budapest developed. (The sky and water look sharpened.) In Lightroom, if you apply a mask to limit sharpening only to the land, the detail rendering will be improved. Find out in this head-to-head comparison of these two top contenders in the arena of post-production for photographs. Looking at the two images, it appears sharpening was globally applied to both. In the questionWhat is the best photo editing software Darktable is ranked 2nd while Lightroom is ranked 7th. As always, feedback and comments are greatly appreciated. Decided to write a post recently doing side by side comparison of the basic UI and things I like/don't like. I started using Darktable alongside Lightroom couple of years ago. It's a gorgeous scene and must've been fun to photograph. Darktable vs Lightroom Classic CC Comparison Hi Folks, Long time Linux user here. I might even go so far as to say it’s harder to just pick up and use than Lightroom, and if you haven’t used a photo editing application before it will be a challenge to get to grips with. It has the downside that, like Lightroom, the learning curve is steep. It seems like an ongoing process to get the best Fuji RAW converter. This has the upside in that much of what you can do in Lightroom you can do in Darktable. Your example to me though with Darktable looks quite unnatural almost HDR like. The first image was developed with Lightroom 6.6.1 and the second one with Darktable 2.4.0. I doesn't affect the quality of the details though. I tried to somewhat mimic the Lightroom processing of the file, but since I've never used Darktable before, the output is a bit off, especially regarding the colors. Here is a comparison with Lightroom of an image shot with a Fuji X-T1. I have to say I'm very impressed by its demosaicing of Fuji X-Trans files!Īfter having tried Capture One, Luminar, Iridient X-Transformer and RawTherapee, I find Darktable to give the best details and overall quality. In my quest of finding a Lightroom replacement, I just gave Darktable a shot without really considering it as a viable alternative. ![]()
